Seán Russell Memorial
Dublin, Ireland
Date of incident: 12/31/2004

This statue of IRA leader Sean Russell was erected by the National Graves Association in Fairview Park, Dublin, Ireland on September 9, 1951. The original statue erected by the Sinn Féin/IRA after WWII was vandalized by Communists in 1950 because the statue’s right arm was raised in a Nazi-style salute. On December 31, 2004, the head and right hand of this figure was broken off by anti-fascists in response to Russell’s connections with Nazi Germany during WWII. The statue will be replaced with a bronze version.
