Veterans Memorial Park
Anchorage, Alaska, United States
Date of incident: 03/19/2008

The Anchorage Veterans Memorial was Alaska’s first landmark honoring the state’s veterans. It was erected in 1983 and dedicated in 1984, with other additions and improvements added over the years. On March 19, 2008, the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war, a bucket of dark red paint was poured over the statue of a World War II infantry soldier as an anti-war statement.
