Statue of Vladimir Ilich Lenin |
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States Date of incident: 03/26/1999 |
A 14 ft., 4,500 lb. statue of Vladimir Ilich Lenin was erected in 1999 outside of the Red Square restaurant and bar along the Mandalay Bay Row at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Las Vegas. A few months later on March 26, 1999, after complaints from retired servicemen, Circus Circus Enterprises Inc., the parent company of Mandalay Bay, beheaded the statue and dripped white paint on it to resemble bird droppings. The head is kept in a frozen block of ice along with the restaurant’s vodka selection. |
