Statue of Mahatma Gandhi |
Bheemgal (Nizamabad district), India Date of incident: 10/02/2001 |
On October 2, 2001 (the 132nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi), a statue of Gandhi had its legs twisted and broken. The statue was located at the Bheemgal center, in Nizamabad district in India. The investigative police found a letter near the statue, linking the Peoples War Group/Naxalites (a communist group that grew out of the Sino-Soviet split in the Indian communist movement) with the vandalism. |
